Who we are

Laurie Schecter
Trustee

Laurie grew up in Hollywood Florida and still resides there.  She is most proud of her work as a citizen activist to move toward good government, good business practices and a healthy planet. Laurie has co-founded several organizations focused on advancing the common good, including Citizens for Ethical Politics (a political action committee) and three organizations in Florida that work to engage voters.

Julie Schecter
Trustee

Julie trained as a science writer but most of her focus has actually involved political work. Aside from supporting local electoral races, she’s been an advocate for reproductive rights, and started a community-based group to preserve primitive shacks in the Cape Cod National Seashore. Beyond this work, she has also served on the Boards of the Center for Defense Information (which worked to keep the Defense budget to only a necessary size), Provincetown Center for Coastal Studies, and Hampshire College. She lives in Central Massachusetts.

Ben Goloff
Trustee

Ben is an organizer and movement builder. He works at the Center for Biological Diversity. Ben supports communities and organizations across the country that are organizing for transformative federal action to end the era of fossil fuels, address the climate emergency, and advance environmental justice. Ben lives in Washington D.C.

Laura Rigell
Action Lab Convener

Born and raised in east Tennessee, Laura has followed her passion for change-making from the hollers of West Virginia to United Nations conferences, from the porches of North Philadelphia to Philadelphia City Hall. Laura started working with SHIFT in 2021 to lead their work on democracy. She planned the Convening in 2022 and worked with the participants to co-design the Action Lab, which she now facilitates.
